E&O series offers attorney feedback: Time spent by staff
SwissRe survey results offer perspective in E&O defense
SwissRe Corporate Solutions and the Big "I" Professional Liability risk management team recently surveyed their E&O defense attorneys to gain more perspective into the agent's E&O litigation environment and to get real-world feedback.
We are presenting the results by topic to provide direction on where potential E&O claims may be lurking in your agency.
This month's edition looks at how much staff time to expect will be needed in the E&O claims defense process.
Time spent by staff
When asked to estimate the average time E&O claims can take away from staff's daily activities, answers varied depending on which part of the claims cycle the agency was in plus the complexity and claim amount.
"The amount time varies, but on average 15-20 days per lawsuit of the claim is taken to trial. Distraction time will be low in the beginning, but increases as the case proceeds. At certain points an agent may be devoted full time to the claims process."
