IIABSC Foundation met recently to award the annual recipients of its newest scholarship program. Thanks to our members' contributions, they had the funds to award seven $2,000 scholarships in 2021.
Each year the Foundation awards at least five college scholarships of $1,000 each to the childen of member agency employees whose children are either entering college or already undergrads. To be eligible, applicants must be a South Carolina resident and enrolled as a full-time student in the fall. They are looking for students that are active in his or her school and community, demonstrate a solid work ethic and possess strong leadership abilities, teamwork and a desire to succeed.
Call for applications are generally in September or October each year with a December 31 deadline. The following are this year's winners:
Bladen Bates, currently attending Wofford University with a major in Psychology and Art History. She is the daughter of Tom Bates with AssuredPartners in Greenville.
Perrin Berry, currently attending the University of South Carolina with a finance major. He is the son of Scott Berry with the Insurance Office of America in Columbia.
Kaya Cox, currently attending the College of Charleston with a communications major. She is the daughter of Carri Cox with Correll Insurance Group and John T Cook & Associates in Myrtle Beach.
Banks Fryer, currently attending the University of South Carolina with a major in accounting & finance. He is the son of Mark Edward Fryer with AssuredPartners in Columbia.
Chandler Herdon, currently attending the United States Sports Academy in Alabama with a major in sports science and coaching. He is the son of Stacey Herndon with the Midgley Agency in Bennettsville.
Sophia Hincapie, currently attending Tulane University in Louisiana with a major in psychology and pre-med. She is the daughter of Jennifer Hincapie with Furman Company Insurance Agency in Greenville.
William Stone, currently a high school senior attending Lewisville High School in Chester with plans to attend Clemson University majoring in Forest Resource Management. He is the son of Hugh D. Stone with Stone Insurance Agency in Chester.
