116th Annual Convention report
IIABSC 2015 Board of Directors were installed at the 116th Annual Convention held Oct. 5–7 at The Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms, SC.
Ken Finch, CPCU, CIC, CRM, AAI of
Adams, Eaddy & Associates in Columbia was re-elected Chairman of the Board by the general membership during the annual meeting.

Irmo Insurance in Irmo was re-elected Chairman-Elect and Treasurer of the Board of Directors.

Agent of the Year
Paul W. Steadman, CIC, AAI, ARM, AU, of
The Steadman Agency in Charleston has been named the 2014 Hayne P. Glover, Jr. Agent of the Year in recognition for outstanding community service and contributing to the betterment of the insurance industry.
Since he joined his family agency in 1986, Paul has been an actively involved member and leader of the Big “I.” He’s served on and chaired the Young Agents Committee. He’s also served on the junior golf committee, convention committee and the Board of Directors. He’s the current president of the Greater Charleston local chapter.
As an alum of the College of Charleston, Paul has done much to advance risk management training there. He has created the Steadman Scholarship for aspiring, serves on the Board of Governors for the School of Business and is a guest professor teaching the principals of risk management.
His community service reaches beyond the industry as well. He serves as Vice-Chair of the MUSC Children’s Hospital Board and is Co-founder and Chairman of one of their major fundraising events. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow for Rotary International and participates in leadership roles with the Episcopal Diocese of SC.
The Agent of the Year is named for Hayne P. Glover, Jr. to honor his many years of dedicated service to the Big "I" state and national associations. Glover was from Greenville and is the only South Carolinian so far to serve as the national association president. Glover was an outstanding example of service to his community as well as the industry, which are the criteria used to evaluate nominees for this award. The award is sponsored by AFCO/ Prime Rate Premium Finance in Florence.
Young Agent of the Year

Curtis M. Bull, CIC, AIP, of
Turner Insurance Agency in Greenville has been named the 2014 Young Agent of the Year.
Curtis has been with The Turner Agency for nearly 13 years. He’s served on the IIABSC Young Agents Committee and was recently selected as a Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce Leadership Greenville Class of 40. He’s involved with his church and has been a little league coach, Meals-on-Wheels volunteer and Director of the Greenville Clemson Club. His agency peers declare that he embodies the spirit of the Young Agent and the Trusted Choice agent by establishing solid relationships with clients, carriers and other agents throughout the state.
The Young Agent of the Year award is given to an independent insurance agent age 40 or younger for outstanding service to his or her community outside the field of insurance and has contributed to the betterment of the industry. It is sponsored by AFCO/ Prime Rate Premium Finance in Florence.
Industry Person of the Year
Director of Insurance Ray Farmer of the
SC Department of Insurance was named the 2014 IIABSC Industry Person of the Year. The award recognizes industry representatives other than independent insurance agents who have contributed greatly to the insurance industry in South Carolina.
Under the leadership of Director Farmer for the past two years, the Department of Insurance has continued its focus on consumers, recognizing that they are served best by a competitive, vibrant and open insurance market. He has been an advocate for market-driven regulation and has earned tremendous respect in the General Assembly among legislators who rely on his expertise and integrity to be clear and honest with them in regard to key insurance issues.
All these characteristics also mean that he has been a tremendous supporter of independent insurance agents. He understands the benefits we bring customers and the knowledge and professionalism offered by an independent insurance agent.
AAMGA Outstanding Committee Chairperson
Angus “Gus” M. Brabham, IV, CIC, of
Regions Insurance in Columbia, SC, was named the Outstanding Committee Chairperson of the SC InsurPac Committee. This award recognizes those who have established themselves as leaders in the profession, exemplifying the qualities of our industry.
Gus serves on our Board of Directors, Trusted Choice® branding committee and of course, he chairs the InsurPAC committee, to all of which he has brought a unique quality and style.
In his community he is active with Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he has been part of their Foundation and Dean's Search committees and a Sunday School teacher. He works with and supports the National Alliance on Mental Illness and also Make-A-Wish South Carolina in conjunction with our Trusted Choice® partnership. He has also coached basketball, soccer and sporting clays.
The award is sponsored by the American Association of Managing General Agents, who regularly support the Big "I" and the independent agency system.

Bobby Bryant of Orangeburg, Grayson King of Charleston and Lee Ellis of Hampton were recognized for their service to IIABSC with Chairman’s Citations from Ken Finch.
InsurPAC fundraisers
As always, there was an InsurPAC fundraiser going on at convention. Those who made onsite contributions were entered in a drawing to win a Big Green Egg, one chance for every $100 contributed. There was an Early-Bird drawing of a $100 gift certificate to Omaha Steaks for those who pledged on or before Oct. 3.
The winner of the Big Green Egg was Kathy McKay of McKay Insurance in Charleston. Agent of the Year Paul W. Steadman contributed his award winnings of $1,500 to InsurPac, bringing the total contributions by 2014 annual convention attendees to $11,424.
Golf tournament
The Henry G. Turner Golf Tournament was held at the Harbor Course of the Wild Dunes Golf Club. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, which are as follows:
